Most history books are filled with people, places, and events that sit on lofty pedestals, but there’s a whole other side of American history that’s been forgotten and pushed into the shadows.
But while those stories might be a bit darker than the ones we heard about in school, they are no less valuable. American Shadows explores the lesser-known tales relegated to the dusty corners of US history, one journey at a time, in our signature Grim & Mild style.

Lauren Vogelbaum is a writer and performer around Atlanta and the internet. You can also hear her on podcasts like BrainStuff, The Second Oil Age, and Savor – a food show she co-created to pursue her interest in microbiology without feeling so much like a supervillain in training. Often found reading about bugs or perusing comics shops and grocery stores, Lauren is certainly not training a well-read insect army, and she’s pretty much always hungry.
